Did you know that there are an average of five (5) strokes per week in Bermuda?
But what are we doing about it?
Join our network and the many recovering survivors.
What is a Stroke?
A stroke is a medical emergency.
It occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted either by;
85%
OR
b. rupture of blood vessel (hemorrhage/ bleed)
15%
Brain cells die within minutes of blood supply interruption. So if a stroke is suspected, act “F.A.S.T.“
Immediate medical attention is critical to minimise brain damage and improve chance of survival and longterm recovery. So do not hesitate to activate the local emergency response system (CALL 911).

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you know why you had a stroke?
Identify your risk factors including: blood sugar control, blood pressure, repeated long periods of sedentary behaviour, bedrest, smoking, anxiety, sleep apnea, toxin exposures
(including food born).
Is it possible to recover from stroke?
Neuroplasticity is the “molecule of hope”. Find out how to activate the brain remodelling process.
Need to Change Your Diet?
Consider you relationship with food and optimise this relationship for your best health. Find a dietitian you can trust and learn from their experience and the evidence base about the impacts of food on your body.
What is neuroplasticity?
The persisting ability of the intact and/ or damaged brain and central nervous system to adapt by absorbing new information and evolving through sensory flexibility and continuously creating of new synaptic pathways and connections involving billions of neutrons.
Could I benefit from regular rehabilitation sessions?
The rehabilitation process grows ones awareness about their stability, aids in pain management, adds strength and endurance.

Neuroplasticity
Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) – plays quite a pivotal roll in stroke recovery. It promotes protection of the system as well as adaptability variables necessary for functional restoration and Neuroplasticity.
-
- BDNF (Neurotrophin) Upregulation also upregulates systemic repair of the neural circuits!
-
- The expression of BDNF is activity dependent and increases with neuronal activity, exercises and other interventions that can aide in reorganisation of brain networks.
-
- Decreases in circulating BDNF common in initial stages of stroke and TBI seems to correlated to poorer cognition, mood, neuromuscular coordination which makes it a marker, when present, associated with improved overall functional capacity.
